Care guide

While the bottle itself is dishwasher-safe (top rack only), we recommend hand washing to maximize its lifespan and protect the cap threads from potential wear.

IMPORTANT: Never put the filter in the dishwasher—it will be permanently damaged.

Hand Washing (Recommended):

  1. Remove the cap and filter
  2. Wash with lukewarm water and mild detergent
  3. Rinse thoroughly
  4. Repeat if necessary

Dishwasher Instructions:
If using a dishwasher, remove the cap and filter first, then place the bottle on the top rack only. Note that high heat settings may affect the bottle over time.

Tested Relentlessly

We work with the NSF and EPA accredited labs to test our filtration to the highest standards. Our filter has been tested to reduce over 50+ contaminants. More comprehensive results can be seen here.

PFAS

These forever chemicals are carried in the bloodstreams of more than 95% of Americans. They're linked to certain cancers as well as immune and deelopmental issues.

Viruses

Waterborne viruses are highly contagious pathogens that cause severe gut issues. Their extremely small size (typically 20-100 nanometers) allows them to pass through many conventional filters

Bacteria

Pathogenic bacteria in water can cause gastrointestinal illnesses and life-threatening infections. With contamination often resulting from sewage, animal waste, or inadequate treatment.

Microplastics

Microplastics are now common in tap water, and plastic particles found in brain tissue have risen 50% in the past eight years. While results vary by particle size, ÖKO’s 1.25-micron filter blocks nearly all microplastics.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What's the benefit of a squeezable plastic bottle?

We use soft plastic because it's the only material that delivers everything outdoor enthusiasts need: ultralight weight for long-distance hiking, impact resistance for rugged adventures, and the flexibility required for our FilterSure™ technology that provides fast, natural water flow.

How often do I change my ÖKO Original filter?

The lifespan of your filter greatly depends on the quality of the water you filter through it. The more contaminated the water, the shorter the life of the filter. We suggest you change it every 50 gallons for best tasting water, but it should be fine for up to 100 gallons with most tap water. Based on 100 gallons of water, you will get:

  • ÖKO-750 (0.75L) Adult Bottle – 580 Refills
  • ÖKO- 1000 (1L) Jumbo Bottle – 375 Refills

How do I clean my ÖKO filter?

Don't! Unlike basic, simple carbon filters, the ÖKO filter media is made of a high-performance and sensitive material. Subjecting the filter to harsh detergents, soapy or hot water will not only loosen its pores and reduce its performance level but may impair its function permanently.

How do I know its time to change the filter?

As a general rule, if water does not look clear, taste clean or if the flow seems to be slower than usual, the filter should be replaced.
